Pastries I tried in San Francisco

Here is a compilation of bits and bops of baked goods I tried while on vacation!
Chocolate Chip Cookie from Dandelion Chocolate - San Francisco, CA

I appreciated this cookie for many reasons. The first is that it was thick. I despise thin cookies because that usually means they're crunchy, and what a sin it is to make a crunchy chocolate chip cookie versus a soft and chewy one. This one had a softer and more satisfying bite given its thickness.
The other reason I liked this cookie is that it was made with chunks, not chips. For some reason, chunks taste better. It feels more luxurious I think. The third thing that stood out to me was the balanced sweetness. The dough seemed to be a good level of sweet; any more sugar and it would have been too much. The semisweet chocolate helped balance it out (although I prefer milk chocolate). Overall, I rate this cookie an 8/10. What would have made it better is milk chocolate instead of semisweet and some flaky salt on top.
Apple Fritter from Bob's Donuts - San Fransisco, CA

Can you have a bad donut from a place called Bob's Donuts? At least that's what I thought. I've tried a few apple fritters in my day and haven't found one that knocks my socks off, but I’m determined to find the one.
This donut weighed almost as much as an infant, so my hopes were high. However, I was a little let down after the first few bites. The first issue was that there wasn't enough glaze on the outside. Worse than a thin and crispy cookie, imagine a dry donut! A glaze on the outside gives it some moisture as well as the kind of sweetness that hurts your teeth but tastes so good. The dough of this fritter had very little cinnamon flavor. There were only a few chopped apple pieces. Overall, I’d rate it a 6/10.
There were so many other donuts on display that I regret not choosing. Bob’s Donuts in San Fransisco has been around since the 1960’s and is worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Honorable mentions: pastries I didn’t get to try, non-dessert foods
Tartine Bakery, San Fransisco, CA
Not pictured, but we bought a loaf of their Oat Porridge sourdough. 10/10! The most sour sourdough I've ever had. Below are some pictures of their beautiful pastries offered that day.

And to finish it off for Tartine, you can purchase $5 shot of espresso.
Banh Mi from Jam's Joy Bungalow - Sebastopol, CA

A crunchy, sweet, and tangy sandwich was the perfect meal after a long drive. A bit messy but definitely worth it. 8.5/10
