For the first post on this blog, I'm starting with an original item, only because LOOK at how gorgeous this creation is! I don't bake a lot due to limited counter space, limited tools, and limited patience. But when Mother's Day season rolled around this year, I felt inclined to do something special; also I'm teaching myself how to decorate cakes, so I needed an excuse to practice. Pulling from different recipes I found online, I made a chocolate cake with raspberry jam filling, iced in a chocolate buttercream with small, pink rosettes piped all around. The cake itself was just the smallest bit dry, but the jam filling along with the buttercream helped it out just enough. Overall, the cake was a success; even my boyfriend who has never liked chocolate finished his entire slice happily.
Will I be making this cake again? Probably, but with a few adjustments: I'd bake the cakes for a little less time, and I would double the amount of raspberry jam filling for sure. A successful Mother's Day celebration, and a successful first blog upload.
